Using the acclaimed Tiered Archive File System from PoINT Storage Manager software, advanced policy based management and automated data archival features are integrated into a robust server for simplified installation, and to provide needed system resources for integration of a three tiered storage infrastructure. The ease of installation and simple, yet high function, user interface saves money and time throughout the product lifecycle. MDI’s unique enhancements differentiate the Express Stor in flexibility and reliability. The performance of an Archive Edition NAS is approximately 20% greater than a comparably configured file server due to the operating system being streamlined to support file service as opposed to general purpose applications.

A broad range of NAS RAID models are available in base usable capacities from 500 GB to 9 TB, with most models offering expansion to several times the base capacity. Express Stor Compliance Edition models provide scalable solutions for workgroups to enterprise datacenters.

Integrated NAS Write Once File Storage

Growing concerns for compliance, protection and retention of information, today's data storage systems need the security of unalterable WORM storage. Whether the requirement is from the myriad of government regulations or internal corporate governance practices, data needs to be safe from manipulation or destruction. MDI Archive Edition is a Network Attached Storage server with advanced software to provide immediate, permanent, write once storage on high performance SATA RAID. Folders and shares are created in the normal manner, and the PoINT Tiered Archive File System (TAFS) is then applied to these folders, allowing the system administrator to specify them as write once volumes. Files written to these folders may be accessed transparently, yet they may not be modified, renamed or deleted. Permanence and accuracy of information are secured.

Extremely high availability of data is assured through the use of the highest quality components including hot swap drives, redundant power supplies and redundant processors. The Compliance Edition is available in several models, providing from 500GB to 9TB of Write Once permanent storage on integrated SATA drives in a RAID configuration. Additional storage capacity can be added up to 50TB with Expansion Units.

Integrated Data Migration and Management as part of the Tiered Storage Concept

In addition to the capability to store the data in a protected state, the Archive Edition provides a robust feature set that assists in collecting data from source systems on the network and integrating these source directories into a true multi tiered storage architecture using the PoINT TAFS interface. High priced storage devices including NetApp filers can have their capacity extended by migration of less used files to the Archive Edition NAS, while continuing to service as the source folder location for all clients and applications thru the use of TAFS links. Integrated Data Archival as part of the Tiered Storage Concept

Included in the MDI Archive Edition is native device support which allows the connection and operation of optical jukeboxes, tape drives and disc publishing systems to automate the archive process and create duplicate copies of the data. These devices are managed within a third "Archive" Tier, which is designed to support permanenet, long term archival storage and migration of valuable data asssets.

MDI Express Stor solutions are designed to be the focal point for the data protection strategy for an application or an entire organization. iSCSI support enabling the system to be a Unified Storage Solution, supporting both NAS and IP-SAN functionality. Fully compatible and tested with a wide variety of backup and replication options, Express Stor can be configured to bring ease of use and simplicity of data management to many storage environments.
