The XenData Alert Module is designed for use with XenData Archive Series Software, and is compatible with the Video and Advanced Editions, version 3.32 and higher. By filtering and categorizing events recorded in the XenData Event Log, it can tailor email and on-screen alerts to the needs of the Archive System Administrators. This Module is very useful when accessing offline files, as it automatically generates emails identifying requested files and the required tape cartridges needed for access.

The module consists of two key components:

Event Monitor
The event monitor runs on the same server as the Archive Series Software, and is complete with email notification. This monitoring service is pre-configured to detect five different categories of events as they occur in the XenData Event Log. Each category can be mapped to unique groups of email recipients.

  • XenData Audit – Describes the successful completion of media management operations
  • XenData Media Management – Events that may require routine actions of the administrator
  • XenData Media Error – Provides error messages associated with tape cartridge problems
  • XenData Hardware Error – Provides error messages associated with the tape drive or library
  • XenData System Error- Provides error messages associated with system problems

On-Screen Messaging
The on-screen Messaging program may be run on the same server as the Event Monitor or on Windows clients. It can be configured to display via message boxes and system tray notification. This program connects to the event monitoring service on the archive service, and may be run simultaneously on multiple clients. The program requires Windows XP, 2000 or Windows Server 2003 Operating System.
