XenData’s
Video Edition manages a tape library and RAID System on a Windows
file server to create a high performance data storage solution
designed specifically for digital video archiving. The software
represents the tape library and RAID System as a logical drive
letter to the Windows file system. Video files can be written
to and retrieved from the digital archive as though from a
standard Windows logical hard drive. XenData software is tightly
integrated with the Windows Server 2003 Operating System -
there is no longer a need for proprietary solutions for professional
digital video archiving.
Partial Retrieval of Video Clips
XenData’s software possesses a unique capability which allows for partial retrieval
of large video files of all types. By sectioning large files, the tape can
be rapidly driven to the beginning of the required section, optimizing the
retrieval of the requested section, rather than requiring the entire file.
Retention of Low Resolution Proxies
The system administrator determines policies
for RAID caching. These policies can be tailored for each volume
and file type written to the library. For example, low resolutions
files may be stored on both RAID and tape, providing fast retrieval
from disc, whereas large files could be stored only on tape.
Off-Site Retention and Disaster Recovery
The ability to duplicate tape cartridges
for off-site retention, combined with off-line cartridge management
capabilities allow XenData to implement an on-line, near-line
and off-line storage management system. The system retains
information on off-line tape cartridges for rapid access and
rebuild.
Optimized File Transfers
The XenData Video Edition is optimized
for fast file transfers via FTP and CIFS, the standard Windows
network protocol. Files are typically archived and retrieved
at many times real-time.
